Frequently asked questions
What is a Marriage and Family Therapist?
A marriage and family therapist (MFT) has specialized training in working with couples and families (and also individuals) using a systemic perspective. This approach focuses on the relationships and dynamics that exist between people. An MFT considers the whole family system, and helps couples, families, and individuals to address a wide variety of issues.
How long does therapy last?
While there is no fixed number of sessions for therapy, most people experience significant change in 8-12 sessions. As we achieve your goals, we will evaluate whether there are other goals to work on, and if not, we will conclude therapy services. Typically, each session is 45-50 minutes. Longer sessions are also available (click here for more information).
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance directly, but upon request, I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If you are interested in using your health insurance, I recommend contacting your insurance company to determine what out of network mental health benefits you have. Many people do not have coverage from their health insurance for couples' therapy. Additionally, insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis in order to provide coverage. If you have further questions, we can discuss them when you book your appointment.
Do you have evening appointments?
Yes! I see clients in the evening on Tuesday night. Please call me to find a time that will work best for you - 443-906-1230.
